 Year 2 - Week Two Learning

The children have been settling into Year 2 well this week and have enjoyed exploring their new classrooms and outside area!

Literacy

This week in literacy, the children have started looking at our text for this half term - 'The Egg Box Dragon'. We have been learning all about adjectives to make our writing more descriptive. The children listened to the description of The Egg Box Dragon and drew what they heard. They have also been matching descriptive language to the characters and have been writing their own sentences including adjectives.

Next week in literacy we will be continuing our work on adjectives and writing some fabulous sentences to describe the characters in the Egg Box Dragon.

Maths

In maths, the children have been recapping their knowledge of place value. They have been working with the dienes to represent two digit numbers using tens and ones. We then began to look at part-whole models where the children partitioned the numbers.

Next week in maths, we will be continuing our work on place value and learning to partition numbers in different ways applying our knowledge of tens and ones. For example 64 = 60 + 4 or 64 = 30 + 34.

Outside

The children have enjoyed exploring their outside area this week as an extension of their classroom. They have been working in the water area to explore capacity, looking after our gardening area and building dens using different resources.
