Year 1 Week 4 Learning 24.09.2021

Literacy

This week we have been thinking and writing about how Beegu is feeling. The children used role play and freeze frame to create a silent tableau to replicate Beegu’s thoughts and feelings.

Next week, we will be describing a character’s appearance using adjectives. The focus will be on alien characters.

This week the children have been working on counting one more and one less than a given number to 10 using numicon.

Next week, we will be continuing counting one more and one less than a given number. We will be using number lines and number sentences. The focus will be using the +, - and = symbols.

    Science

The children in Year One selected four different trees around the School to observe and track the changes across the four seasons this year. This is a wonderful opportunity for outdoor learning and allows the children to experience the changes of the seasons for themselves. We discussed the things the children know about Autumn and spent time looking at the trees and describing what the children could see.

Next week we will be collating our findings and writing a report based on our observations.

ICT

This week the children have been talking and learning about how to stay safe online. They have been exploring the internet and learning how to log on to the ipads. The children have been expressing what they like to play and do at home on their own electronics.

Next week, the children will continue to learn to use search engines related to our topics.

Forest School Apricot Class

The sun shone on Year 1 on Tuesday and  they had a lovely time finding sticks, describing sticks (thick, thin, hairy, bumpy, smooth), comparing sticks and using sticks in imaginative ways. We had unicorn horns, guitars, and telescopes made from sticks. We also had some time to enjoy the hanging cave, hunt for acorn shells and make pictures from sticks on the grass.
