Investigating in Numeracy

Mulberry class carried out the following investigation in their Numeracy lesson.

What is the best shape to use to make a lawn for the outside area? How many tiles would be needed to build a border around the different lawn shapes? Which would be the cheapest way?

We used 12 green cubes for the lawn and chose a different colour for the borders. Then we copied our different lawn shape into our books by colouring the squares.

We found out that you nee to use the fewest number of cubes for the border if you arrange the green cubes in a rectangle shape of 3 cubes wide and 4 cubes long.
