Sienna and Sophie's Experiment

When Mrs Taylor rushed into class holding a small box warning us to be very careful we were all very curious. Sienna and Sophie explained that had been experimenting at home with an egg and sure enough inside the box was a squigy purple egg. The girls had used vinegar to dissolve the eggs shell, the vinegar contains acetic acid which breaks apart the calcium carbonate crystals that make up the egg shell. They added food dye to their experiment resulting in a lovely purple egg at the end. Apparently the egg is very delicate after an experiment like this and prone to explosion so we were very happy the girls handled the egg very sensibly and carefully to avoid this!
