Year 1 - What we are learning 19-5-23

This week the children have attended their first trip in Year 1. We are all very proud of the way that they behaved on the trip and how responsible they all were. It was a pleasure to take them out.

A Lot of hard work has happened this week, the children are working super hard with the Phonics in preparation for the Phonic screening checks but also thinking about Year 2. Which has come around too fast!  Please continue to practice at home the real words and Alien worksheets to help with sound recognising and confidence.

Geography

This week the children visited the Year 6 classroom to have an example of a Birds eye view. They noticed that they could see a lot clearer when being high up. Then they complete a map to demonstrate a Birds eye view of Year 1.

Literacy

This week in Literacy the children have been writing letters to the Head teacher to share their ways to help keep the school tidy and more energy efficient. The children used conjunctions in their writing and were asked to proofread their writing before getting it checked by an adult.

Science

This week children have been discussing recycling and what items can be recycled, thrown away or used for compost. They completed a cutting and sticking activity and putting the items into the correct places.

Maths

What’s the time Mr Wolf? Children have worked fantastically on time this week. They have been learning O’clock and Half past and have also been looking into how long the times are.

In Apricot class there were different timers being used to see the difference between seconds, minutes and an hour.
