Year 1 has worked so hard this week. They have been taking part in math and literacy assessments. All the adults in Year 1 are really proud of what the children have achieved so far this year, but we still have lots of work to do! Thank you to all the parents that came to Parents evening. It was really nice to be able to discuss your child's progress.
Next week is half term, we hope you and your children have a well deserved break.
Literacy
Year 1 has transformed into Traction man this week. They were asked to write letters to Granny, thanking her for the lovely green romper suit she made. The children used adjectives in their writing and learnt how to start and finish a letter. We asked the children to complete the writing as independently as possible and they all tried hard to use phonic knowledge and to write in past tense. Ed the time traveler!!
Maths
The children completed 2 assessments this week. The first paper was arithmetic and the second was a reasoning paper. The children were asked to complete these papers as independently as possible. They all tried really hard.
Topic
Science
What objects float and what sinks? The children have been experimenting with water this week and learning about why and what objects float and sink. The children learnt that when the object is less dense it will float and denser objects sink. We tried to use as much scientific language as possible.
History
This is our last week of learning all about Mary Seacole. The children in year 1 have really enjoyed this topic learning all about her history and what life was a very long time ago. The task this week was learning about chronological order and putting Mary Seacole's life in order.
RE
This week the children completed a virtual tour of a church. The tour showed the children different features of a church including the Font, Stained glass windows and the pews. We then discussed how Stained glass windows were used to help people that couldn’t read to follow the stories of Jesus.
Dress to express
Friday was a great day! The children enjoyed wearing their own clothes to school and definitely dressed to express themselves! They had a carpet session about Mental Health and ref;ected on the Zones of regulation.
