Year 1 - What we have been learning

What a week Year 1 has had! This week the children performed their Nativity and they all did incredibly well. The Year 1 team are so proud of how hard they have worked and would like to say a big Thank you for coming to watch the children.

Literacy

In Literacy the children have been finishing the retell of Pattan’s Pumpkin. The children have been encouraged to check their writing making sure they do not forget Finger spaces, Capital letters and Full stops.

Next week, the children will be starting Read write inc assessments but will be having to hold a  sentence intervention.

Maths

This week in Maths the children have been introduced to shape as next week the children will be focusing on 2D and 3D shapes. This week the children were asked to name the 2D shapes and sort them from 3D shapes. The children completed this by remembering the 2D shapes are flat.

Try these shapes songs at home!

Topic

Science

For Science this week, children have been focusing on their bodies. They have been labeling the different parts of the body and reminding themselves of the senses by singing Head, shoulders, knees and toes. But we have replaced some of the words with hearing, sight, smell and taste!

Computing

To encourage children to use the computer and iPads, they had the opportunity to play a  Christmas game on the IWB. They enjoyed decorating the virtual Christmas tree.

Christmas  Jumper day

The children had a great time wearing their brightly colored jumpers. The children also took part in some Christmas activities and have started to read a collection of different Christmas books in class.

RE

To continue with the festive spirit the children have been continuing to learn about the Christmas story. It was great that they all recognised the story because of the nativity, and could name all the children that played the parts.

The children completed letters to people who are special to them, thanking those people for all the things they do.

 Fantastic understanding!
