Investigating Shadows in Pine Class.

How is a shadow formed? Are shadows different for translucent, opaque and transparent objects.? What is the shape of shadows? Do they change? These are some of the questions we tried to answer when investigating shadows this week?
week.

Construction in Cherry.

Elis, Zac and Denayo have been great in the construction area today. They made a car by following detailed instructions. All three of them demonstrated great resilience and reciprocity, well done boys!

I look forward to seeing what other items the children will successfully construct from the instructions available.

Fire station visit

This morning the children in year 2 were lucky enough to visit our local Fire Station. We learned all about the different aspects of their job including; rescuing horses from mud, putting out fires and cutting people out of cars!

This is related to our topic which at the moment is focused on The Great fire of London. We learnt about the capacity of the fire engine in relation to water and discussed how this was not a luxury the people in 1666 would have had! Children have realised how lucky we are to have such a brilliant Fire service.

Maths Enhancements in Year One

During our morning maths sessions, the children have been busy completing the various mathematical activities that have been set up

The girls enjoyed completing addition calculations on the computer.

Sydney relished the challenge of finding different ways to make 10. She decide to record the calculations in her notebook.

Ethan and Fayo completed the time challenge - How many pom - poms can you put into the pot in one minute? They recorded their results on a whiteboard and then set about achieving their personal best!

Evie and Sophie enjoyed playing an addition game with the dice and playdough. Both girls recorded their scores on whiteboards.

Maisie also enjoyed the playdough addition game, adding the right number of apples to the tree and finding the total.

Remembrance Day KS1

Key Stage One have been learning about the reasons why we wear poppies at this time of year.

We discussed that we wear poppies to remember soldiers and others who have died because of war.
Children have written peace poems, taken part in the two minutes silence and completed various Remembrance day activities. Outside the children created a poppy field on a large scale, using sponges and brushes. Each poppy different and unique - what a lovely piece of artwork! Great teamwork KS1.

Cedar fire station visit.

We had great fun at the fire station today. We had a tour of the fire station and learnt what happens when a fire is reported. Everyone got the chance to sit in the fire engine and spray the hose.
