Green Fingers Year 2

Friday was a lovely, mild day for a spot of gardening. We moved our plants so we could create a dedicated area for planting and growning. In KS1 the children learn about the parts of a plant, they also learn about what plants need to stay alive. Throughout the year we will be looking closely at our plants for changes. We have planted some herbs and will also be planting some vegetables soon so we can start to see first hand the benefits of our gardening efforts! "Disco heather is so colourful, it looks like a firework!" Shivanshi "I've done gardening at home before, I know you have to carefully put it's roots in." Elise
You could learn more about plants on BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd

Year 1 - What we've been learning this week!

Take a look at some of the things that we've been learning in Year 1 this week!

Maths

In Maths, we've started subtraction. We've been learning how to take away using ten frames, number lines and concrete objects like cubes and Numicon. Why don't you try this subtraction game at home?

Literacy

In Literacy this week we have started a new book, Pattan's Pumpkin. We have been introduced to the two main characters, Pattan and Kanni this week and created a role on the wall for Pattan. We also created some signs with instructions to keep the Pumpkin in the story safe. Here are some of our signs.

Science

In science, we've been starting to look at the human body. We did an investigation in each class to work out who was the tallest. We split into groups and drew around the tallest person, then we put the drawings up on the wall and compared them to see who was the tallest in each class!

Have a good weekend, see you next week!

Year 2 Egg Box Dragons

We

Year 2 used their DT skills to create their own dragons based on our focus story 'Egg Box Dragon'. We spoke about how to transform our plain egg boxes using different techniques and the children used various methods to create their own characters. They then used their literacy skills to explain how to make an egg box dragon by writing some fabulous instructions. The children remembered to use Adverbs of time and manner to explain each step! "I carefully cut the cardboard... carefully is an adverb!" Shivanshi "My dragon has a long tail, I had to twist the pipe cleaners to make it." Liam

Great Fire of London WOW Day Year 2

Year 2 were transported back to 1666 when they came back to class on Monday. Last half term we started to look at London in our Geography lessons, we learnt that it was the Capital city of England and studied some of the famous landmarks, this half term we are learning about an important event that happened in London in 1666; the great fire of London. The children started the day with a workshop with the Freshwater Theatre company. They helped a lady who had time travelled from 1666 and used their drama skills to act out life in London at that time. We learnt about where the fire started and how it spread. In class we made some items for our role play bakery and investigated clues linked to the Great Fire. The children were really interested in the topic and are excited to find out more about this topic. "I enjoyed acting as the mayor, everyone had to bow to the king" Darcie "I learnt that the fire started in the bakery" Lucas
