Year 2 What We Are Learning

Literacy

The children worked very hard to write their newspaper

reports about the Great Fire of  London this week.  They used

the appropriate features including the  5Ws (Who? Where?

What? When? and Why?) and conjunctions to link their

ideas. Additionally, they included eye witness accounts and

clearly explained why the fire spread quickly. Well done Year 2!

    Maths

In Maths, pupils  were able to complete problems involving

addition and subtraction. They have used their knowledge

of place value to solve these problems using the column

method.  Well done year 2.

History

This week in history we compared the present day to

1666. We explored how the fire services have changed.

This includes the equipment they use and the uniforms they have.

Mulberry Class Forest School

The next  half term, Mulberry Class will be participating in Forest School sessions.  These sessions will take place on Tuesday mornings.  The first session will be on Tuesday 5th November 2024 while the remaining sessions will hold on 12/11/24, 19/11/24, 26/11/24 and 03/112/24.  These sessions are led by Miss Float (Jill Jungle Owl) and Alison Shorter (Alison Ant).  Please find below a leaflet that explains/reminds you of what Forest School is all about. This leaflet was sent to all the Year 2 parents in September 2024.

The children in Year 2 are already familiar with Forest School, as they participated in two half term blocks of sessions in Year 1.

When participating in these sessions (whatever the weather), the children are required to wear tracksuit/jogging trousers and welly boots (with their school polo shirt and jumper).  These should be left in school to change into each week.  In wet/cold weather, your child will need a warm coat, a hat and gloves to wear. Please be informed that the children need to bring their own  waterproof all in one or waterproof jackets and trousers plus wellies in.

Forest School sessions take place whatever the weather, so it is important the children are properly dressed, so that they can participate in and enjoy each session fully.

Many thanks for your continued support.  We are sure your children are going to be looking forward to having the opportunity to participate in Forest School again.

Children in Need - 15.11.2024

21st October 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Broadford will be hosting a very special day to raise money for Children In Need this year on Friday 15th November.

This will include:

  • Non-uniform day with a theme.

  • Design a new Pudsey competition to take place within classes.

  • Fun Pudsey themed activities to take part in throughout the day in class.

This year's theme encourages you to be SPOTacular!

The children can wear any spotty clothing they own or if you are struggling to find clothing to match the theme a simple idea would be to draw polka dots on a plain t-shirt. If you would like to add Pudsey accessories to your outfit feel free! We ask that you contribute £1 per family to this great cause if your child is in non-uniform and any further donations are welcome.

I am sure that we will all have a fun day raising money for Children In Need.

Kind Regards,

Miss Hamilton and Mrs Green
