Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1: What We Are Learning

Year 1 have been working really hard this week.

In Literacy this week the children have been planning and writing a scene from the story Traction Man in their own words. The children worked hard to use adjectives and remember their sentence rules. Well done Year 1!

The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. Please continue to read with your children and work on their Spellings with them. Please remember to sign your child's Reading  Record Book.

In Maths this week the children have been solving double number sums. They have been working hard to solve double and near double sums - well done Year 1!

In History this week the children worked together to list all of the similarities and all of the differences between Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. They also took part in a quiz when they answered lots of questions all about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale.

In Science the children discussed the properties of a variety of objects. They talked about what the material felt like, what they could use them for and whether they were waterproof or transparent.

Here is a photo from PE this week:

This week the children enjoyed making pancakes for Pancake Day.  The children measured out the ingredients, helped to make the pancakes and decorated the pancakes with their chosen toppings. They describe their pancakes using lots of amazing adjectives and enjoyed eating them very much!

The children also engaged with activities for Valentines Day.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
