History
This week in History we looked at chronological order. This is arranging events in their order of occurrence in time. We looked at where and when the Great Fire of London started and how it went on. The children learnt that on Sunday 2nd September 1666 - The fires started at 1.00am in Thomas Farriner's bakery on Pudding Lane. On Tuesday 4th September 1666 - St Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by the fire. On Wednesday 5th September 1666 - The wind dies down and the fire spreads more slowly. On Thursday 6th September 1666 - The fire was finally put out. We successfully sequenced the events!
Literacy
This week, the children learnt about present tense and past tense. Then, they wrote a fascinating fact file about London in 1666. They learnt that London was overcrowded and full of wooden houses which caused the Great Fire of London to spread so rapidly.
Maths
This week, pupils focused on partitioning any number
using a part-whole model. We practiced identifying and
recognising the parts and the whole. We used our place value
chart to assist us with partitioning one and two digit numbers.
Forest School
Pine class had a busy morning at forest school today. We got ready with our waterproof trousers (the benches were wet) but the sun soon came out. We found snails and worms, focussed on the details we could find in nature with the magnify glasses and did lots of digging. Everyone made their forest school necklace to wear each week. We finished up with a story and time of reflection.
