Year 1- what we are learning

Well Done to all the children for another great week and welcome to the new children and parents that have joined us.

The children have continued to learn their Phonics everyday and have been trying really hard with their reading. It is really important to keep reading with your children each week and practicing their spelling every night.

Could you please make sure that you are signing your children’s reading record once you have read.

Thank you

Maths

Year 1 have been learning all about numbers this week. They have been learning how to recognise numbers in words. This can be very tricky as some words are not decodable. But they tried really hard and it will be ongoing throughout the year.

 Forest School

What a great week! The children took part in some many activists. Firstly, they went on a Natural treasure hunt and made something out of what they had found. Teachers were very impressed with all the treasure! After that, they took part in Gardening using different equipment to help with the gardening. Whilst gardening the children found a Ladybird, so they made the ladybird a house to keep him safe. Finally, the children completed the session with water painting and a relaxing poem about how to appreciating the outdoors.

Literacy

This week, Year 1have been focusing on Beegu and using adjectives to describe how she looks. They have been also writing sentences focusing on capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

History

We have stared out new topic “Space”. The children learnt about Neil Armstrong and how he was the first person to step onto the moon. The children also watched an interesting clip of the Astronaut walking on the moon.

Science

Children in Year 1 have been recording the amount of daylight in each season. They have been investigating the change in the weather in the different seasons. By using a chart they were able to play which seasons had the most daylight and the least.
