Year 1 - What we are learning

What a week! Year 1 has had a really good week. They have been expressing their ideas more and it's great to see how confident the children have become. They are trying SUPER hard in phonics and have been taking the extra Phonics sessions in their stride. If anyone has any questions on the practice Phonic assessments please see your class teacher.

Just a quick reminder to Adults. It is really helpful for the Year 1 team if you sign the reading record to show that reading is being completed at home.

Thank you

Literacy

Continuing this week with our  story  ‘10 things I can do to help to save my world’, The children have completed an informative leaflet. The  leaflet contained different information on how we can make small changes to help the environment. The children worked hard on their leaflets and created some fantastic pictures to go with the writing.

Maths

In Maths this week children have been learning about equal groups (sharing) and Arrays. They have been using worksheets and concrete objects to show their workings and understanding.

‘ There are 4 cupcakes. They are shared between 2 equal parts. How many will each part have’?

Dressing up for EID!

Eid Mubarak! The children looked fantastic on Monday when they dressed up for EID. The children enjoyed learning about Eid and why it is celebrated.

PE

Apricot class children had a great PE lesson this week. They completed an obstacle course. They were jumping over obstacles and using the batons for relay races.

Geography

What can you see? The children have been learning about maps and plans from a birds eye view. They have been looking at the local area and trying to spot familiar places and landmarks. Children then completed  a birds eye view map of their classroom.

It's been Party Time this week in Apricot class, they won  attendance for the Term which is a tremendous achievement. Well done to all those children they come to school everyday.
