Year 1 - What we have been learning

What an exciting week Year 1 has had. They are continuing to work hard and putting in  lots of effort in all subjects. A big Well Done to all those children (and adults) that completed the Maths and spelling activity sheets. It’s great when both Teachers and adults can work together to develop our children. Please keep up with the reading at home, at least 3 times a week.

Literacy

The Snail and the Whale has swan into Year 1! The children have started a new book and are now completing different activities. This week children have been learning about Snails. They completed a fact file on Snails just in case they ever wanted one as a pet.

Maths

This week the children have been learning about numbers up to 50. The children have been looking at how they are counted, formed and putting these higher numbers in order on a number line.  They have also been using the Dienes to show how many Tens and ones are in each number.

Topic

Geography

This week the children have been reminding themselves about the different seasons of the year. They looked at the different features for each season and wrote a short sentence on what they notice. They also completed a familiar song which would be great for them to practice at home.

Science

Professor Bubbleworks visited Broadford on Monday. The children completed some fantastic experiments on the topic of Air/Connections. The children looked at bubbles, fire and a leaf blower to show how air can move. The children had lots of fun having cups blown off their heads to being in the middle of a ginormous bubble

What do animals like to eat?

Is it a Carnivore,Herbivore or Omnivore? In science this week children have been learning about what animals eat and what makes animals Carnivores or Herbivores. The children completed  a Venn diagram  to put the animals into different categories

Computing

Children have been exploring keyboard practice. They are starting to practice typing by playing games on the iPad which is encouraging them to find out where each letter is on the keyboard. The children really enjoyed the typetastic game!
