Year1 Awards

 

 



These children have worked extremely hard and have been rewarded for all of their hard work and efforts.

E for Excellence

Apricot:Kylie

Kylie has been making more contributions when sitting on the carpet. Kylie has been using her voice and sharing her ideas and learning with her peers.


Beech: Zarrar for his hard work in every area of his learning this week. Zarrar has been producing excellent pieces of work in Maths and Literacy. He also has been working independently in the continuous provision. Well done Zarrar!







Walnut: Duke

Duke has earned this award for working very hard to use his mathematical skills to solve reasoning problems during his maths assessment. Keep up the good work!






Star Writers

Apricot:Sonny

Sonny has been working hard on his letter formation this week. He has been writing the letters to the correct sounds. Well done Sonny!



Beech: Diya for her amazing animal fact file this week. Diya wrote lots of brilliant sentences describing her animal. Well done Diya!



Walnut: Hayden

Hayden earned this award for working very hard to use his sounds to write his story.


Learning Power Awards

These are the key skills that our children will need to learn effectively in class and to be successful later in life.


Reciprocity

These children have shown interdependence, collaborated effectively, listened to others, displayed empathy and have imitated effective ideas and methods from others.

Resilience

These children have demonstrated perseverance, managed distractions, noticed patterns and been absorbed in their tasks.


This has been awarded to: Ambica

Ambica worked very hard to retell the story of the Snail and the Whale. Even when she found it tricky, she persevered until she completed the task. Well done Ambica!


Resourcefulness

These pupils have been curious about learning, made links between ideas, shown imagination, reasoned methodically and capitalised on resources.

This has been awarded to: Jessica for all of the amazing creations you have made in the junk modelling area. Well done Jessica!




Emma creatively used resources in the classroom to make a beautiful 3D butterfly which she put in her habitat during her science lesson.


I Made My Teacher Happy Award

This has been awarded to: Lirsa and Poppy

Thank you to Poppy for going on a Snail hunt and finding Apricot class there new pet!




Well Done Lirsa. Lirsa has been trying hard in all lessons and activities that she has been asked to do.






Year 1 - What we are learning

 




Spring term has finally come to an end and all the children deserve a nice break. All the children have worked extremely hard and we are incredibly proud of the progress we have seen this term. After Easter the children will come back rested and fresh ready for the summer term.


The Year 1 team would like to wish you all a very restful break and hope that you all have a wonderful Easter! ( Try not to eat too many eggs!)


Literacy

This week in Literacy the children have completed a retell of the story Snail and the Whale. The children were asked to create story maps and from this create a story using First, next, then and finally to sequence the events of the story.









Maths

The children have been completing Capacity this week. They have

Been making potions using different sized containers and using language like full, half full, nearly full and empty.
















Topic




Pinky, Harold and Woody the snails

Apricot class would like to welcome 3 new members of the class. Welcome Pinky, Harold and Woody Snails. The children are very excited to have new pets and are taking great care of our new little friends.








Geography

As we have been learning about weather and climates, the children have been learning about what climate different animals live in and why.









Easter Fudge

Chocolate treats have been made this week. The children have made delicious Chocolate fudge! The children have had a great time mixing, crushing chocolate and watching it all come together. We also focused on the importance of washing hands and not licking the spoon when you're at school!









Easter Hunt

This morning the children went on an Easter hunt. They children were given clues and had to hunt around year 1 classrooms and outside area to find the anagram. The children also had a visit from a very special bunny!


Science

Children completed Animal fact files. They chose an animal and wrote different facts about them. This included what they eat, how they look and an interesting fact.


Easter Egg Parade!

Hop little bunnies!

Well done to all the children (and adults!) who made such amazing Easter hats! The children completed their parade and sang the song sleeping bunnies!

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 2! However, many children have shown extra hard work throughout the week.

The E for Excellence awards go to: 

Jorgie, for her engagement and participation in class discussions. You were able to identify and  explain clearly to the whole  class what one third was using key vocabulary.

Maya, for her positive attitude to learning, engagement in class discussions and being helpful in class.

Veronika, for settling into Broadford so well. It is great to have you at our school. We look forward to seeing your hard work continue!

The Star Writer awards go to:

Kayden, for independently writing a descriptive piece of writing about the forest using adjectives and expanded noun phrases.

Billy, for your fantastic independent sentences about the forest. You used adjectives to describe the setting and took pride in your work. Well done!

Bella, for your absolutely fantastic writing this week. You have independently written sentences and used fabulous adjectives.


We have also awarded children for their efforts in their learning, their pupil jobs and reaching the high expectations set in Broadford Primary school.



The resilience award this week goes to: Max,Chloe, Elsie


These pupils have planned carefully, revised ideas, identified key features and can talk about their learning.

Year 1 Easter Activities!

 



Happy Easter!



Your children will be coming home with Easter activities today. They will be given 2 booklets, one is a Math activity and the other is Phonics practice.  


When the children complete the Phonics assessments later  in the year, they will be tested on both Alien and real words which is why it is a good idea for the children to start practicing now.

Year 1 in Action March 2023

 Year 1 in Action March 2023 





In Beech class the children have been enjoying making recipes in the Home Corner and baking lots of delicious food. The children have been trying hard to make words with the magnetic letters and write in full sentences using the whiteboard and pens. Beech class have been enjoying role playing as teachers and have been teaching each other lots of new sounds with the Read, Write Inc cards. They have also been making amazing pieces of art using junk modelling and also making beautiful cards using lots of different arts and crafts materials. In Beech class the children have also been making brilliant towers and houses using the wooden blocks. Well done Beech class! 


 

































In Apricot class there is a brand new Science Area! The children have been enjoying exploring their new Investigation Station. They have been completing maps of the world, sorting and writing about animals. Apricot class have also been enjoying getting creative in the Arts and Crafts Area. They have been making beautiful pieces of art using pencils, crayons and pens. The children have been playing lots of Maths games independently on the Ipads. Apricot class have also been enjoying playing in the new Role Play Area which has become a beach. They have been having a brilliant time playing in the sand and pool! They have been making delicious ice creams and enjoying their time at the seaside.





















































In Walnut class the children have been creating amazing habitats for animals of their choice using shoe boxes. They also experimented with making animals out of clay. In Walnut class the children have been using Ipads independently to help them with their work. They have been writing sentences on the whiteboard in small groups. Walnut class have also been enjoying playing in the Home Corner and making some delicious food for each other!



If any parents have any recycled household objects that we could use for junk modelling in our Art Areas please bring them in. Thank you so much!
