From Farm To Fork In Year 2!

From Farm To Fork In Year 2!

Year 2 have been busy up keeping their vegetable patch all year and their hard work has paid off! The children have grown strawberries, potatoes, herbs, tomatoes and much more. They have really enjoyed watching them grow each week as part of their science investigation. It has been lovely for them to see where their food comes from and how to gets into those supermarkets!

Firstly, the children harvested the potatoes. They were so surprised to see what was hidden below the soil and very impressed with the amount of potatoes they had managed to grow! The children trimmed the tops, dug out potatoes, sifted the soil to check for any small ones left behind and washed them ready for eating.

After some discussion about all the ways that we enjoyed eating potatoes, we decided to make a potato salad using some of the chives that we had also grown.

The children worked together to chop, boil and mix until they turned their produce into a delicious snack! Lots of the children were excited to try what it and remembered lots about healthy eating which we have been learning about in science.

Well done year 2, what a great skill it is to be able to grow your own fruits and vegetables!
