Year One Outdoor Learning

The children have been having a great time exploring their new resources in the outdoor area. Take a look below:

Last Monday, an alien crash landed in our playground. Since then the children have been searching for clues as to what might have happened. We think it  was an alien called Beegu!

It was fantastic to see the children using this in their roleplay this week. They used the loose parts to create a rocket, which they boarded to fly into space.

What might look like just simple fun is actually highly important work. When children use their imagination in play, they are developing crucial psychological and emotional capabilities that not only turn them into creative thinkers and problem solvers but has a huge impact on them as independent writers.

Later the same day, the children used the same piece of equipment but this time created a new game. Every time that managed to get the hoop on the pole, they got two points. This was a great way to reinforce the 2 times tables and addition skills.

Our balance boards were also delivered this week. The children showed no fear as they explored what skills and tricks they could do. The balance boards are a great way to develop balance and agility, two important elements of the Year One PE curriculum.

We look forward to sharing more of our outdoor learning soon!

Best Wishes

The Year One Team
