With the recent news about the success of the SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket launch on 6th February, we decided to incorporate a space theme into Year 2. Whilst it could be a possibility for commercial space flight for the future of our Year 2's, the children have been excited to hear about Falcon Heavy, the most powerful rocket on the market (it is 70 metres tall and with three boosters containing 27 engines).
In class, the children have been learning about the planets and have begun to look at some of our superhero astronauts, such as Helen Sharman and Tim Peake. There are lots of space themed activities in our small world area, construction area and finger gyms.
'We have written our questions to Tim Peake- I wanted to know what life is like in a rocket' Frankie
'What do the stars look like when you are that close?' Rajaab
'Can you keep pets in space?' Nancy
'Tim used to be in the army and was a pilot before he became an astronaut' Malachi
'He had to do lots of challenges like stay underwater for days and then live in the cold for weeks' Harry
