"Hmmmm" "Yum" "Delicious" "Scrumptious"
These were just some of the words heard during our Pancake celebration in Year 2!
Shrove Tuesday fell during half term this year, but that did not stop us from having our own belated Pancake day celebration!
First, the children learnt all about this Christian tradition. They discovered that this day precedes Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. They then spoke about how Christians often give up something for lent and discussed what they think they could give up for the 40 days (Sundays are excluded).
"I think I could give up chocolate and fizzy drinks." remarked Moyin

The children then reflected on other religious traditions and spoke about the fact that different religions celebrate different things. They even noticed some similarities between traditions which proved they are great reflective learners being able to link and notice similarities and differences.
"We fast during Ramadan" Rajaab & Zara
"A lot of celebrations in all different religions seem to be about food" noticed Malachi

"I like Pancakes!" exclaimed Jeremiah.
"Hmmmm they're so good" beamed Harry.
"Not everyone celebrates this, just like some people don't celebrate Christmas." Nancy
With full tummies and smiles on their faces, the children bounced back to class reflecting on this Christian celebration.
