More Castle Poison.

Here are some more photos of children making their castle poison in Cherry.
They had the extra challenge of halving the recipe amounts before being able to start.
We were very strict with accuracy today so to check our poison was correct, we added up what the total capacity should be at the end. Miss Estall then measured the capacity of our poison to check they all matched the total.

Mya and Ja'Shayla managed to measure their poison to the exact amount! The other children were extremely close; being only 5ml out!

For 75ml we had to count in intervals of 5.

Marooned onTreasure Island

Whilst being marooned on a treasure island, the children in year 1 have been finding out about survival. Week 1, saw the children building shelters that were sustainable against the wind and rain. Week 2, the children had to design and build mini rafts in order to escape. They needed to test their rafts to see if they would float and how much weight they could hold. This week, the children have been discussing which foods they could find on the island. Some very sensible suggestions included coconut/coconut milk, berries and various fruits plus catching your own fish. We thought this was the perfect time to introduce some new foods; blueberries, passion fruit, Sharon fruit, mangoes and grapefruit. As the children suggested some great words to describe the fruits, they were encouraged to build up their own word bank to use in the writing area. Words included; scrumptious, slimy, slippery, squashy, mushy, juicy, bitter, sour, sharp, revolting, disgusting.

Drawing faces in Cherry.

The children truly impressed Miss Estall with their portraits last week. They have been researching the work of Andy Warhol as part of our learning challenge and are working on their face drawing skills. Children used lines on the face to help ensure facial features were correctly positioned and symmetrical. Take a look at some of their work...

BEWARE! Castle poison!

Children in Cherry class loved making their own Castle poison today when learning how to measure capacity, this linked to our topic work when investigating how to attack a Castle.

The children followed a recipe which required them to measure accurately and use the appropriate units. They all measured the different ingredients fabulously and as a result all had their very own Castle poison!

Zac knew his poison would work as it smelt disgusting!

Cherry complete their class Marathon!

The children each completed their four laps required to ensure we completed the equivalent of a marathon. Many children even managed to complete more than four, great stamina!

We look forward to receiving the sponsorship money to support the Canon Collins Trust which Mr Drakes ran the marathon for on Sunday.

Cherry Star Writer: Godswill Hartford.

Even though Godswill missed our first week of writing non-chronological reports, he has produced a fantastic report about Castles. He used subheadings to separate information and included lots of interesting facts about Castles. Godswill has been working on his independence and on Friday he successfully completed his report without needing adult support!

Keep up the great work Godswill.

Cooking in cedar.

Year 2 have been learning all about weighing in class this week. We have been measuring ingredients to make fairy cakes. We found if we did not measure our ingredients accurately our cakes were not quite right.

KS1 Science day.

A variety of children in key stage one thoroughly enjoyed their day with David and Carole. They participated in many scientific enquiries that focused on light and reflection, including making their own periscopes!

Ramone said "I really enjoyed myself, that's why I want to be a Scientist when I'm older".
Paige and Mya said their favourite part was drawing portraits of themselves using the mirrors.
Archy and Kabey loved making a periscope so they could spy on people!
