We have had another great week and there has been so much to celebrate in Year 1! 

These children have worked extremely hard and have been rewarded for all of their hard work and efforts.

E for Excellence

Walnut:Hussain

Hussain  always shows a positive attitude towards his learning and gives his best in every lesson. Well Done!

Apricot:Kezia 

Kezia has been showing fantastic behavior inside and outside the classroom. Kezia has also been working hard on her maths, making doubles and sharing. Good Job!

Beech:

Robyn, in recognition of your excellent attitude in the math sessions. You always  try your best in the math sessions and you  have worked super hard  this week solving doubling and sharing word problems. Excellent work Robyn

Adalind wrote lovely sentences to describe the different stages of recycling and used her sounds to write tricky words. Well done!

Edward has been working hard on his  phonics and handwriting this week. Edwards letter formation has become a lot clearer as he continues to practice. Amazing!

Year 2 Forest School

Year 2 Forest School 

Mulberry class were back at forest school today and making the most of their creative skills. We used y shaped sticks to make decorations for the hut and one was made into a game. We made some water colour pictures and water stencils using spray bottles. We hunted for treasures including dandelions, shells, daisies and blades of grass. We finished off by lying on the grass and listening to a story which encouraged us to think about our feelings. Looking forward to next week already Year 2.

Literacy

We have been working on our focus text 'Jack And The Baked Beanstalk' by Colin Stimpson this week. We began by making predictions about the story from the front cover and the blurb, thinking about how it may be similar or different to the original Jack and the Beanstalk story that we are familiar with. We then wrote a description of the setting at Jack's burger ca, thinking about what we could see, hear and smell. This required us to use lots of interesting adjectives and apply the 'ing' suffix. Finally we were using our knowledge of commas to write lists of all the jobs that Jack's mum does when she goes to work.

Maths

In maths we have been continuing our work on 3D shapes, sorting them in different ways and thinking about their properties.

This week, we have been creating designs for a chair that we will be making for Jack. We had to think about the different parts of the chair and the materials we will need.

Science

In Science we have been looking at different bulbs and seeds. We drew an observational drawing before planting them and will continue to closely observe as they grow.

A huge massive thank you to the Thames Chase volunteers and our children for working so hard to complete our gardening area this week. We will be focusing on growing plants in Science next term.

This week the children have been learning and writing about how we can look after our world. They made fantastic posters and then performed a presentation on how to look after the environment. 

Next week, we will be writing information texts about litter and why it is important to recycle. The children will be writing all about the recycling cycle and how different materials can be reused. .

Maths

This week, we started our multiplication and division unit of work and we focused on counting in 10s and making equal groups.

Chloe: ‘There are 10 muffins on each tray and there are 30 muffins altogether.’ 

Next week, we will looking at doubling and sharing.

This term the children will be learning about the ways in which a church is important to believers and other religious places of worship and their importance. 

Computing

This term we will be continuing to learn about programming and algorithms. The children have been using the program Scratch Jnr. You can download this from the internet on both apple and android devices. 

Beech Class Forest School

Forest School was packed with exploring and finding things that made us go wow. We found stones the same size as our finger nail, eggs on leaves among others. We worked out the ages of some trees on the site, went on scavenger hunts and did some balancing too. Year 1 worked out that the thicker a tree trunk is the older the tree is. Looking forward to more discoveries next week.
