Year 1 - What we are learning

Welcome back to the last term of the year. We hope that you all had a restful break. This term is a busy one for Year 1. The children this week have been pushing themselves really hard with their phonics as the Phonics Screening assessments start from Monday. We have been completing quick Phonics sessions for the children but also mock screening checks so the children know what to expect.

Please make sure that you are still reading with your children on a daily basis as this will help their fluency. It would be very helpful if an adult could please sign the reading record to show the children are being read with. Also, please remember to bring in your children's books to be changed on the correct day.

Thank you!

Literacy

This week the children have been writing letters to the Head Teacher to ask for for some money for us to buy ingredients for our Lidl trip. Year 1 have been writing persuasive letters and explaining  how they really deserve to make some delicious cakes. They also suggested that they would share cake around the school. We are focusing on Capital Letters, Fingers Spaces and Full stops.

Maths

In Math this week they are re-visiting partitioning numbers. The children were asked to count in 10s and the find how many tens and ones are in each number. They all completed the task well, reflecting back on previous learning.

Let them eat cake!

Year 1 are turning into chefs this term. This week it has started by designing cakes that they would like to make.

Science

This term children are looking at Plants. The children took part in planting cress and seeds outside in the garden. Over time the children can look after the cress and watch how they grow in different conditions.

RE

This term children will be introduced to Islam and what Muslims believe in.  This week the children have learnt about the Qu'ran and why it is special and how it should be treated. The children then reflected on what is special to them and wrote sentences and drew pictures to express this.

COLOURFUL Day
The children are really enjoyed wearing their colorful clothes today. We would like to thank all the adults that brought in a prize for our Tombola.
