Week 4 Home Learning- Year 2

Week 4 Home Learning

Year One | Huntingdon Primary School

Good morning everyone,

It was so nice speaking to some of you last week. We absolutely loved hearing what you have been getting up to. We will be in touch this week to speak with the rest of the children in year 2.

In Key Stage One, we are introducing Google Classroom. This is something which the children in KS2 use, but it will be brand new for our children. The work which is set using Google Classroom will be the same as what is released on the blog. What Google Classroom offers (which the blog does not), is a space where the children can comment and ask questions, allowing them to interact with the teachers and each other. They can also post work that they have done, for others to see. Initially, some children may require adult support, however the more they use it, the more independent they will become.

The children will need to access Google Classroom using an individual login. In order to get their login details, please email us at year12@broadford.havering.sch.uk with 'Google Classroom' in the subject heading. We will then reply with your child's log in details. As always, below is week 4's timetable. Remember, you can chose to follow it dip in and out as it suits you. Each day there will be a maths, literacy, PE, topic and wellness session.

Spellings

We will continue to blog spellings each week and a link will be released each Friday,
where a member of our Year Two team will read out the spellings for the children.

Reading

Oxford Owl reading website are offering free access to their books online. The children will be familiar with these books as it is already part of our readings scheme. The colours match to their current reading colours. To gain access to these great resources, sign up for FREE at https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-school/oxford-owl-ebook-collectio

Children learning to blend and read simple words such as ‘cat’ or ‘went will be learning Set 1 sounds
and reading Ditty or red books.
Children learning Set 2 sounds will start to read Green, Purple and Pink.

If you are unsure of your child’s book colour send an email to the shared mailbox and your child’s teacher can advise you further. Happy reading!

Other reading resources

Reading to children is still really important. If you are struggling to access books at home Cbeebies have a daily bed time story.Try to watch this with your child and talk about what happened after:

One of our very talented Teaching Assistants, Mr Maher, has created a reading site for the children to use as part of their home reading. The site is based on animals and has some great photos and facts.
There is also some quizzes the children can take part in.
