Science Week in Year One

Monday Madness!

Monday was the first of our daily experiments. The children had to make a volcano using a measuring cylinder in the middle. The children in Beech class decided to keep it white so they could see what happen.

In Apricot class, the children designed their volcano to look like the one they had seen in our story 'the Snail and the Whale'. The start of Science Week brought much excitement as they watched their volcano erupt!

'I think it's going to explode' - Aisha
'It's bubbling up like fizzy coke!' - Asher

In Walnut class we created our volcano and discussed what we thought would happen.  The children made predictions about what they thought was going to happen.  They measured the quantities of the ingredients adding more as needed. They were delighted by the results as the volcano erupted!

Self-inflating Balloon Fun!

In Walnut class we asked the children whether they thought a balloon could inflate without blowing it.  The children believed that this was not possible.  The children measured out the ingredients and watched in amazement as the balloon started to inflate!

Jumping Seeds!

In Walnut, we measured the ingredients to carry out our experiment of making the apple seeds jump.  The children observed and made estimations about which ingredients to add to the mixture to make the apple seeds jump.
