Fishing for Treasure

When Miss Tynan accidentally dropped a stick in the sand pit Martina was amazed there was enough water on the cover for it to float. We started to test which things would float and which would sink and began building some boats. When the boats floated away we decided to use sticks to help them float round the cover to each other, soon the boats were floating off past shark infested waters and the children collaborated well to ensure they stayed afloat. Shortly treasure was added to the game and we started to hook the treasure with our sticks, it required great resilience as we had to control the sticks and make sure we were very safe and sensible with them. Each treasure piece was worth 10 points so the children had to use their maths skills to count their scores, they were very keen to know who had the most treasure so made sure everyone counted in tens accurately. The children demonstrated great resourcefulness in using a covered up sandpit in an imaginative way  to develop their gross motor skills, maths and team work skills!
