Year 2 Stay and Learn

To all the Year 2  parents who came for our first Stay and Learn session, we say a big 'Thank You'. We really appreciate it that you took the time out of your busy schedule to attend. We   hope you really enjoyed it and found it informative.

The session was on how we teach writing at Broadford, the expectations by the end of Year 2 and how parents can support their children at home. Please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher if you have any question.

Year 2 What We Are Learning

 

                                                

 

Literacy

    This week, the children became reporters and  travelled

    back to 1666 when the Great  Fire of London happened.

    They thought about the events and eyewitness accounts.

    Next, they discussed and planned their newspaper reports 

    using  the appropriate features including the  5Ws (Who?

    Where? What? When? And Why?). Next week,

    they will be writing their reports. Watch this space!

 

    Math

In Math, pupils were able to come up with all the

number bonds to 100 using their prior knowledge of

number bonds to 10. Also, they completed sums

involving adding and subtracting 1s. Well done year 2.

Science

This week in science we have been exploring human

health. We discovered that humans need healthy food

and exercise to keep healthy. We also learnt that human

hygiene is important, this includes brushing

our teeth and washing our hands.

E for Excellence

Apricot:Teodor

Teodor has been working hard and completing his maths with clear understanding and a great attitude to learning. 

Beech: Freddie-Joe

For his outstanding work in Maths this week. He is beginning to understand how to use the inequality symbols and worked hard to correct his number formation. 

Walnut: Luca

For completing his work independently, Luca sounds out unfamiliar words and has been fixing mistakes without worrying. Keep it up Luca!

  Star Writers 

Apricot: Aayush 

Aayush has created lovely writing this week. He has asked some interested questions to the King and remembered his question marks. 

Beech:  Vedasri

For her excellent effort in Literacy to write sentences about a time you felt surprised! 

Walnut: Zara

Zara wrote a lovely sentence about how she was surprised in literacy. Zara wrote with confidence and enthusiasm. Excellent Zara.

These are the key skills that our children will need to learn effectively in class and to be successful later in life. 

Reciprocity

These children have shown interdependence, collaborated effectively, listened to others, displayed empathy and have imitated effective  ideas and methods from others.

These pupils have planned carefully, revised ideas, identified key features and can talk about their learning.

These children have demonstrated perseverance, managed distractions, noticed patterns and been absorbed in their tasks. 

Kailan- For trying super hard to write words with little support. Well done Kailan. Keep going!

Kotryna has been working hard on creating her own books this week. She had some great ideas and even took it home to work on. 

I Made My Teacher Happy Award :

Emirhan has been expressing himself more clearly using his voice and opinions.

We are asking all Year 1 parents to bring in any old CD'S or DVD's that are not being used. The children would like to use them for a special activity. 

If you have any please could you bring them into school by Wednesday 23rd.

Nathaniel, was able to give an  excellent contribution as to why Katherine Johnson is an important figure during our whole class discussion. Great work!

Amerah, in history you explained how flammable materials had caused the fire to spread more quickly during the Great Fire of London. Well done!

These pupils have planned carefully, revised ideas, identified key features and can talk about their learning. 

This week Emily reflected upon her science lesson and discussed how she looks after her own health. 

The resourcefulness award this week goes to: Chloe, Maya M

These pupils have been curious about their learning, made links between ideas, shown imagination, reasoned methodically and capitalised on resources. 

Chloe was able to show resourcefulness during maths as she used a hundred square to support her in adding and subtracting numbers. Great work Chloe! 

Thank You Year 1 Parents

 

 Thank you to everyone who came to our first Stay and Learn session for Year 1, it was lovely to see so many of you there.

Our focus was Reading and the ways in which the children can succeed in reading in Year 1.

As mentioned in the the presentation at Broadford we would lilke our pupils to be reading confidently by 6 years old so that they can access a rich curriculum. 

I hope you all enjoyed seeing a RWI lesson in action.
