London Landmarks Year 2

In our Geography lessons we have been sketching maps of the UK. The children have created their own keys to show the four different countries. We are focusing on England and learning about the capital city of London in preparation for learning all about the Great Fire of London next half term. The children have been using compas points to explain how to find different landmarks and have been very busy working to build some of the famous landmarks in London. "I'm concentrating hard to make the dome part... It's St Paul's" Lexi "The boats can go under Tower Bridge!" Avis

Year 2 Instruction Writing

After posting our dragon egg off to the museum we have been set a task of learning to read and write instructions. This will be very important if we are to help in the near future so we have been busy this week developing this skill. First the children learnt to read and follow instructions, they looked closely at which words told them what to do (imperative verbs) and which words told them when to do this (time conjunctions). We carefully read the instructions and made our own delicious jam sandwiches! After this we were able to use these words to write our own set of instructions for others to follow.

Learning in Year 1 this week!

Learning this week in Year 1

Literacy

This week we used our creativity to make friends for Beegu out of clay. Then we used lots of adjectives to describe the friend. Some of them had long ears, spikes, prickles, lots of eyes and more interesting features!

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning greater than and less than. The crocodiles love to eat the bigger number! We have been using resources such as cubes and number lines to help us work out our answers. Try out this one more, one less game!

Skill Learning

In our independent learning time we have been building our teamworking and creativity skills!

Many thanks,

The Year One Team

Year One's Outdoor Learning

Year One's Wonderful Woodwork

We've had another great week exploring the resources in our outdoor area. This week, we opened up our woodwork area and the children were super excited to get stuck in. With their safety goggles on, they set to work creating the most amazing pieces of art out of a range of resources. We had cars, handbags, sports bat and so many more fabulous things! This is Design and Technology at its finest!!

We look forward to sharing more of our outdoor learning with you next week!

Kind Regards

Week 3's certificates

It's that time of the week again when we celebrate so of the hard work we have seen this week. Check out these amazing children:

Well done to the following children who have impressed their teachers with their work this week:

Well done to Fariah in Beech Class. This week she decided that she would like a 'Home Corner' in the classroom. She designed it and wrote a list of resources she needed. Well done for showing such creativity!

Well done to Evie in Apricot Class. Evie used her numicon to help her work out one more and one less, great work Evie!

Well done to Ayaan in Walnut Class for his fantastic effort in Maths. For making a number line and writing out your numbers from 0-20. Well done Ayaan.

Congratulations to the following children who have worked super hard with their writing:

Well done to Grace from Beech Class. This week we were thinking about how Beegu would be feeling after landing on a strange planet with noone to talk to. Grace came up with some great adjectives, including 'confused' and 'lonely'.

Congratulations to Olivia in Apricot Class for her brilliant writing this week. Olivia described how Beegu would be feeling after her crash landing. Well done Olivia!

Well done to Elena in Walnut Class, for your creativity in describing Beegu's home on the planet Mars. Keep up the great work Elena!

Many thanks,

Maths, Literacy and History this week in Year 1!

Year 1 Maths, Literacy & History!

Literacy - Beegu has crash landed on Earth!

This week in Literacy, we have been getting to know Beegu, the main character in our new book of the same name. We have been imagining how Beegu must be feeling now that she is all alone in a new place and have been using our capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to write some sentences.

Maths - One more, one less!

In Maths this week, we have been using numicon and number lines to work out one more than a given number and one less. We have been focusing on numbers between 1 and 10 but some children have moved onto numbers up to 20! We have also been practising our number formation to make sure our numbers are the right size and shape. Here's a little one more, one less activity you can try with your child.

History - Chronology

In History, we have been practising our chronological skills by discussing our lives. From being born to attending school, we put each milestone on a timeline. We have also been learning some new historical vocabulary: past, present and future. Watch this video on chronological order.

Best wishes,

The Year One Team
