Well done to Callie and Harry who are our Star Writers this week! 

They both wrote a brilliant newspaper report about a very significant recent event... The Royal Wedding! 

They both included a punchy headline, a by line, sources and key information to ensure their readers were fully equip with details of the momentous event. Keep up the hard work children! 

Gardening with Mr Wright!

In preparation for Healthy Eating week, Year 2 explored their vegetable patch that Mr Wright helped them plant some months ago! 

After rooting around they discovered some potatoes and strawberries! 

Unfortunately the beans had been attacked by slugs! So they turned the earth ready to plant some tomatoes. 

We look forward to harvesting the vegetables properly in the weeks to come!

Kanishka's Learning Challenge!

We have had another wonderful Learning Challenge handed in. 

Kanishka wrote about the Battle of Hastings, compared and discussed dungeons and dragons, and drew some marvelous flowers in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe!  

"The Battle of Hastings happened in 1066, between William the Conqueror and Harold Godwinson." 

We look forward to more Learning Challenges being brought in!

Please encourage the children to bring in their learning challenge so we can share their hard work with the class. They will also receive a learning challenge certificate in Friday's E for Excellence

Year 2 – Summer Curriculum Newsletter

Welcome back to the last term of the School year. It really has flown by! We have lots of exciting opportunities and experiences available for the children and cannot wait to get started! 

Homework:

Remember, our expectation at Broadford is that every child should do the following every night:

·         15 minutes reading to themselves or an adult and note in the reading record

·         15 minutes practicing spellings

·         15 minutes rehearsing times tables facts (including multiplication and division)

If children would like to attempt an additional challenge, we have a new Learning Challenge for children to attempt this term which is attached. All of the activities are based around a significant person, poem or painting relating to our topics. Children do not have to attempt every activity but instead select the activities that they are most interested in and compile a project that reflects the extra time and effort that they have put into their challenge. We hope that children will take their time with the challenge.

Spellings:

Spellings will be given out on Mondays. The children should practise their words every evening. The test will take place on Fridays.

Trips 

Tower of London 22nd June.

Local Park visit in July.

We will also be welcoming some feathery additions into our classes…date to be kept as a surprise…

Year 2 Learning Challenge

Please see below, our final Learning Challenge of the Year. As always, we look forward to receiving and celebrating the variety of fabulous work completed by the children.

When I go out to dinner,

I do not want to share.

I don’t care what is on your plate;

I don’t want to compare.

I scan the menu up and down

And then make my selection.

When it arrives, it’s meant for me

And not for your inspection.

 

“You want to taste my fish?” I’m asked.

Some people never learn;

For then the expectation is

To taste mine in return.

 

And so the answer’s always No!

Yet comments never cease.

“Your fries look really good!” They are,

So let me eat in peace!

Each morsel on my dish is mine

And I intend to finish.

Perhaps my attitude will make

Your thoughts of me diminish.

 

I’m sorry if that is the case –

Dessert I’ll split just fine;

But when the meal’s delivered –

You eat yours and I’ll eat mine!
