Year 1 Parents - Stay and Learn

Year 1: What We Are Learning
Year 1: What We Are Learning
Year 1 have been working really hard this week.
In Literacy this week the children learnt all about how our rubbish gets recycled, from it getting picked up from our homes to it being made into something new. The children ordered the pictures correctly and then described what happens to the rubbish during each stage of the recycling cycle.
The children have also been working hard in Read, Write, Inc this week. Please continue to read with your children and work on their Spellings with them. Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record Book.
In Maths this week the children have been making equal groups by sharing with their partners.
In History this week the children ordered the history of the printing press from Johannes Gutenberg inventing the printing press to offset printing and finally digital printing.
In Science the children learnt about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. They sorted the animals in the Venn diagram by whether they were can carnivores, herbivores or omnivores.
In RE the children were learning about the meaning of the word sacred and designed a prayer mat.
Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
Year 2 Learning
Literacy
This week, pupils came up with appropriate adjectives to describe the giant castle in the story. They formed descriptive sentences with a wide range of suffixes and expanded noun phrases.
Maths
This week in math we learnt quarters and thirds. The children were able to answer questions and split a range of objects into different amounts. We showed great resilience with tricky questions!
History
This week we looked at the timeline of the Industrial revolution. We learnt lots of tricky words associated to the Industrial revolution such as crop rotation, agriculture and plough.
Year 1 Parents - 03.05.2024
To Year 1 Parents,
The children in year one will be assessed in a few weeks on their phonics knowledge.
The test will consist of 40 words, some alien words ( not real words), and real words containing set 1, set 2, and set 3 sounds.
All children must practice reading these words at school and home.
Every Friday we will send home past papers for the children to practice with.
Please write in your child’s reading record the words they struggle with so we can support them further in school.

Sofia has been more pro-active when working on the carpet. Sofia is starting to share her ideas with adults and other children.

For her efforts to proofread her work and fix any mistakes. Rosie has been trying really hard to proofread her work and ensure it makes sense. Excellent Rosie!

Teddy wrote about the recycling cycle and put it into the correct order. Well done Teddy-James!

Teodor- Teodor works super hard and can explain his learning effectively and confidently.

These children have demonstrated perseverance, managed distractions, noticed patterns and been absorbed in their tasks.
