Dear Parents and Carers,

        The Tower Of London Trip 

We are delighted to inform you about an upcoming trip for the children in Year Two. We will be visiting The Tower of London as part of our topic “The Great Fire Of London”. We will be exploring the Tower and taking part in educational activities and workshops.

Each class will be going on a different day (please see below).

Mulberry  -  9:00am on  Monday 11 December, 2023

Pine- 9:00am  on Thursday  14th December, 2023

Rowan - 9:00am on Friday 15th December, 2023

The children will be travelling by bus, train and tube and will need to arrive in school promptly at 8:30am. We will be leaving school at 9:00am. The children are required to wear school uniforms. Please ensure that all children have appropriate footwear and a waterproof coat. 

We aim to leave at approximately 9.00m and will hopefully be back by 3.30pm. 

Mulberry Class  will be leaving The Tower at 2:00pm and will return for the end of school. The children will need to be collected from outside their classrooms as normal. Pine Class and Rowan Class will finish their workshops at 2:15pm and leave The Tower at 2:30pm. Hence, they will need to be picked up between 3:45pm and 4:00pm from their classes. Should we be delayed on the return journey, we will contact the school office and inform them of our new time of arrival.

We will be eating lunch at The Tower Of London and  all children will  need to bring a packed lunch in a named disposable bag; this should not include fizzy drinks or glass bottles. Should your child require a school lunch, please complete the preferences form below. All lunch orders are to be completed by Friday  24th November  2023, so we can process your order in time. Thank you.

We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £7.40 per child  (This is less than the price per child but the school will be paying the difference). This  contribution will  assist with the cost of admission and the workshop. Please pay via Squid. Should you have any  questions regarding this payment, please see the School Office.

Year 2 Stay and Learn

 

                                                

The much awaited Year 2  Stay and Learn session is just around the corner. The  members of staff and  Year 2 children are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Stay and Learn session. The focus of the session is  writing and it will be on Tuesday 7th November 2023 at  2:15pm. The session will be in your child's class and there will be opportunities to look at the children's writing books and resources.

Year 2 What We Are Learning

         

Geography

This week we started learning about the countries and capitals in the United Kingdom. We learnt a song about this. Listen here Countries and Capitals of the UK

Our task was to write what we had learnt on a map of the UK. We also coloured each country in. We looked at globes and located the UK. We are on our way to being great geographers!

 

                          

                                                        Literacy

This week, we started our unit on The Adventures of Egg Box Dragon. The children drew their own impression of Egg Box Dragon and wrote a character description of the dragon packed full with amazing adjectives to bring their character to life. Please find below a useful link for adjectives.

Maths

This week pupils focused on solving addition problems. They used their number bonds to add two 1 digit numbers together to make 10 before moving on to adding 3 one digit numbers together. 

Attention Year One Parents

As the children have all settled into Year One, from next week they will be expected to walk down to class by themselves. We appreciate this may be a little daunting at first however the staff in Year One will stand at the door to greet the children and settle them into their morning routines.

Attendance Support

Attendance support

Good morning,

Do you fancy a coffee or tea and a chat in a relaxed non-judgemental environment? We will be offering an attendance support hub from Wednesday 1st November 2023, for all parents to discuss strategies and gain support from our home school support workers (HSSW) and our educational welfare officer (EWO). These will be fortnightly from 8:50-9:30 as a drop-in for parents/carers and will be a good opportunity to meet with other parents/carers who are dealing with similar issues in a secure space.
