Week 1
Good morning everyone,
It has been lovely to see lots of you engaging with home learning already! Your teachers have been busy planning lessons for you in school today and we have tried to think of the best ways to help you continue learning at home. We are going to start our days with a Google Meet at 9.15am, this will be a short session led by one of your teachers to introduce the tasks for the day and say hello to you all. This will start from Tuesday (5.01.2020). You will find a link in the google classroom, it will open as soon as you click it, you will just need to remember to push mute on your microphone! Don't worry it is a little new to us all but please try and join in, we will all quickly get used to this. This will also be the first time we as teachers are using 'Googles Meets' so fingers crossed it's alright on the night!
Following on from the announcement on Monday evening, as we now know that we will be learning remotely until mid February, we will continue to think of new ways to engage the children. We really do understand that home learning can be incredibly hard but we will always do what is in our power to support you.
Morning hello live video
Each morning at 9:15, one of the teachers will say hello to the children and talk about the days learning. For this to work, please ensure you microphones are muted straight away. We are hoping for a large uptake and would love to say hello to all the children... but having 90 little voices responding all at once may make it a bit confusing!
Daily Readers- live video
Between 10am-12pm on your child's reading day you will receive a phone call from one of the Teaching Assistants (TA) in Year One, e.g. If your child is in Beech class and reads on a Tuesday, you will receive a phone call from Mr Cardwell every Tuesday between 10-12. The call will be from a withheld number.
The TA will ask you to log on to google classroom and click on an invite link that they have shared with you. It would be helpful if you could please be ready to click the link. You will then be connected to a Google Meets live video (just like zoom). This will be 1:1 with just your child and the TA and last no longer than 10 minutes. This will be for a phonics activity only. This week the TAs will go through some sounds with the children and a few words from past phonics screening tests. Please bear with us if there are any hiccups as this is the first time that we will be using this technology. We understand that this is also new to you and we will do our best to support you.
Pre-recorded videos
As well as live videos, we are also going to provide as many pre-recorded videos as we can to help with teaching.
We understand that children seeing their teachers, helps to keep them motivated. As they will be pre-recorded, it will allow you to watch them when it fits in with your timetabling, pause the videos and repeat them if necessary.
We will be adding these in as the week goes on.
Below is this week's home learning timetable. You can chose to follow it, or dip in and out as it suits you. Each day there will be a Maths, Literacy, PE, Topic and wellness session.
This half term's book is called Traction Man Please use the sound mat below to support your child with sounding out and spellings:

Contacting us
If you need to contact us, please email us on year12@broadford.havering.sch.uk.
There are a lot of people accessing this mailbox and on rare occasions emails may be missed. To help us manage this, each time you email please put you child's name and class in the subject box (e.g. subject: Alice- Beech Class). This will help ensure that your child's teacher opens the email. Thank you to everyone who did this last week.
Best Wishes
The Year One Team
