Bronze winning Year 2 help Broadford reach GOLD!

A massive congratulations to our 9 Year 2 pupils who took part in the Drapers Sports Day today! The children competed in 5 events across the day, against other schools, and their points from each event were added up to make a total score - they finished a highly commended third place overall! Year 2 were one of the three year groups across Broadford to be placed in the top three in their Year group, such a massive achievement! Their success contributed to the overall total score of the school which saw Broadford crowned as overall champions on the day!

A particular highlight of the day for Year 2 was winning 4 out of 8 of the sprint races! You children really can run fast!

Well done to the following children for their relentless effort in the heat and their cheerful attitudes throughout the day:
Ruben Roberts
Maisy Cohen
Alex Tonu
Leanne Royer
Joshua Nwaokolo
Hayden Northwood
Florence Ayres
Harry Kaylor
Polina Backane

A big thank you also goes to the parents who came and supported and Miss Cook & Mr Portway for working tirelessly over the term to make the event such a great experience for the year 2 children. We have set our sights on being Year 2 champs next year!

Kindness workshop

Last week, year one were fortunate enough to have some special guests come in and give them a kindness workshop. We are very thankful to Mrs Joy and Mrs Wright for all their efforts- the children loved hearing about things they could do to be kind and the story of 'The Good Samaritan'. The children learned a song and dance, joined in with the story and then completed lots of exciting activities.

If you see someone who needs your help you should help them. Zara
I made a kindness diary of things you can do. Kanishka
We learned about the Samaritan who helped the man on the road. Freddie
We decided if they made a good or bad choice in the story and held up our paper plates. Oliver

Summer Fun in Year One

This morning, the children in Year One have been showing off their 4R skills outside during independent choice time. The children have been making dens to give them lots of shelter from the sun and spent lots of time working together in the water area and sand pit. They have been making castles with moats, racing tracks, potions and recipes! They have showed they can work collaboratively in order to achieve a desired outcome and they have shown great resourcefulness in order to make their ideas come to life.

I made a den using the blocks and then used the material to keep it cool. Its from angry birds. I worked with Freddie and Charlie. Peter
We are making a really tall castle and we want to see how tall we can get the sand. Finley
'Does it keep falling, what could you do to make the sand a bit more sturdy?' We could add some water to make it stick better and make it stronger! Alfie.
We've created a cat walk- watch us! Jolene and Sophie (and team!)

Taste the rainbow for healthy eating week!

As part of Healthy Eating Week, Year One got to try a variety of fresh local and exotic fruits. They talked about how to describe the fruits using their senses to help them. They have also written about what would make a healthy meal and then created their own ideal balanced meal.

The blueberries were sweet, squishy and dark blue! Temilola
We were given a mystery fruit to guess- it tasted sour. Tyler
I guessed the mystery fruit- it was lime. It was a pale green colour inside. Tiggy
I loved the oranges and strawberries the most because they were sweet. Sophie

The children have been learning about the importance of hydration and getting a range of nutrients from their food. Children can keep hydrated through their food and other drinks- particularly important in our recent hot weather!

See the poster below to find out more about healthy hydration.

Year 2 Star Writers

Congratulations to Roxy and Olivia, who were our Star Writers in the final week of School.
These girls have made fantastic progress in their writing this Year, which is why Miss Estall and Miss Rollin can't stop smiling! Roxy's handwriting is now unrecognisable when compared to the start of the year and Olivia has made vast improvements in her spelling. What super stars they are!

We can not wait to see what the final term brings, no doubt even more amazing writing produced by our wonderful classes!

Year 2 Learning Challenge

Please see below, our final Learning Challenge of the Year. As always, we look forward to receiving and celebrating the variety of fabulous work completed by the children.

Significant Person: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

Poem: ‘Share not’ by Ilene Bauer.

When I go out to dinner,
I do not want to share.
I don’t care what is on your plate;
I don’t want to compare.
I scan the menu up and down
And then make my selection.
When it arrives, it’s meant for me
And not for your inspection.

“You want to taste my fish?” I’m asked.
Some people never learn;
For then the expectation is
To taste mine in return.

And so the answer’s always No!
Yet comments never cease.
“Your fries look really good!” They are,
So let me eat in peace!
Each morsel on my dish is mine
And I intend to finish.
Perhaps my attitude will make
Your thoughts of me diminish.

I’m sorry if that is the case –
Dessert I’ll split just fine;
But when the meal’s delivered –
You eat yours and I’ll eat mine!
