Star Writers

Well done to Khaira Hascar, Charlie Ilott, Dylan Yeates and Emily Russell for being our Star Writers this week. We look forward to seeing more fabulous writing now that the children have their new shiny pencils to write with!

Sadly, Khaira went home before she was able to receive her certificate and pencil so we will ensure she gets this Monday and will add her photo.

Chicks Hatching

I'm sure you have already heard lots from the children about our lovely chicks hatching on Thursday, but here is a video of the days events so you can see the amazing process for yourselves...

The chicks are doing well at home with Miss Estall and Miss Rollin, growing more each day. Even Sugar, Miss Estall's dog, has grown fond of them; spending most of the weekend sat by their side guarding them! The chicks had their first cuddle today and are ready for the children to handle them tomorrow.

Year One Open Maths Morning

In Pine class, we held an open morning for parents to come and see what we have been learning about in maths so far, in Year One. The children were excited to show their parents and adults the maths activities they use every morning to help explore and consolidate their learning of number, shape, fractions, measure, time and money. These activities are set up to reinforce prior learning and are available for children to use alongside their maths lessons and group work with an adult. This ensures there are lots of opportunities for the children to extend their learning and practise their current skills through their play.

"I enjoyed helping to show the adults how to make 2D and 3D shapes and work out their names looking at their properties" Kiera T.

"After, we got to play Bingo with Miss Gooding and all my numbers came up!" Andreea.

Cedar parents visit

Today was a very exciting day for the children in Cedar because their parents/carers came to visit their maths lesson.

The children put on a good show during their rockstars and showed off their problem solving skills using the column method on the carpet. Afterwards the children and parents/carers were free to explore a range of maths activities plus the continuous environment of the year two classroom to experience the self-led curriculum.

100% of parents/carers enjoyed the morning and believed it gave them insight into the year 2 curriculum here at Broadford.

100% of the children also enjoyed the visit from their parents/carers!

"I showed my Nan how to use the more than and less than signs". Samuel.

Jessica makes the Tower of London

Following our trip to The Tower of London, Jessica has been busy at home creating her own Tower. She made it using a shoe box, kitchen roll, straws and painted it.

"I cut a hole to make a drawbridge".

Jessica feels like she fully understands the features of a castle, and her model of the Tower of London confirms this.
