In Year one maths sessions this week, the children have been developing an understanding of fractions. Having learnt to play fraction dominoes this week, one group of children were set the challenge of making their own set of dominoes involving halving and quartering. They had to check their game worked before playing it with the rest of the class.
Some of the fractions the children came up with were: 1/2 of 10, 1/4 of 20, 1/4 of 4, 1/2 of 30, 1/2 of 400, 1/2 of 100 and even 1/4 of 888.
The game encouraged the children to have to generate their own question. For example; My answer is two, what is the question ? The children came up with two answers: 1/2 of 4 and 1/4 of 8.
