Jorgey was very interested in discussing sea creatures he had seen before when Pine class discussed the seaside this afternoon. Later on he found a computer and typed in 'sea lion facts children', he then found a suitable website and started reading. Jorgey discovered lots of new facts for example, sea lions cannot smell under water, a mother sea lion is pregnant for 12months and they can dive up to 1,000 feet! Good fact hunting Jorgey!

Broadford Lighthouse
Pine read a story called 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' today. The lighthouse keeper had a problem and he wanted the children to show him how the light in his lighthouse worked. The children experimented with wires, batteries and bulbs to find out for themselves how lights work. Sienna and Jack went one step further and created their own lighthouses!
Boxes and Cans Needed
We would like some large cardboard boxes to make into different kinds of transport. We are also looking for empty drink cans to use in some beach side number games. If you have any spare cans or cardboard boxes please give them to your children to bring into school. Thank you!
Travelling Around The World
In their topic work Key Stage 1 children have been learning about seaside holidays. The children will be looking at seaside destinations abroad and comparing them to the seaside that we know in Britain. They have thought about how you might travel to your holiday today and have had some exciting journeys. First they boarded a plane and took a flight to America. The children were provided with drinks and snacks by our air hostess during the journey. There was some turbulence during the flight and the children had to put on their seat-belts but after this the flight went smoothly. In the afternoon the plane was swapped for a boat. The children sailed the oceans remembering to look out for lighthouses warning them of large rocks and shallow waters along the way!

Conor's Venus Fly Trap
Conor amazed Pine class when he bought in a Venus Fly Trap to show everyone. We learnt that the Venus Fly Trap is a carnivorous plant that traps its prey using its leaveS. With the aid of a stick we were able to see exactly how the Venus Fly Trap worked. As we touched the surface of the plant leaf it quickly closed and trapped our stick! Thank you to Conor for bringing in the plant and telling us all about it.
Georgia The Architect
Georgia created a beautiful playground using 3D shapes and her imagination. The playground featured a tree house, a see saw and a climbing frame. Like a true professional, before beginning her work Georgia created her own plan as you can see in the picture.
Bubbles and Squeak
Pine class had a new arrival today, his name is Squeak the fish. He was bought to keep the first fish Bubbles company when all the children and teachers are at home.
Freddie was our class zoo keeper today. While the children were busy eating the pizzas they had made, the fish enjoyed their own meal. The children have made sure the fish are making progress in school by reading lots of non-fiction underwater books to them!

Maths and Pizzas!
Pine had a busy day today designing and making pizzas. The children worked in a pairs and after covering the whole pizza with tomato puree had to add toppings to their own half of the pizza. They learnt exactly what half and quarter meant as they sliced up their pizza and were able to divide the ingredients with their partner. It was a tasty way to learn all about fractions!
