Year One Reopening
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope this message finds you well. A huge thank you for bearing with the school while plans were put in place. To ensure you understand what Year One return will look like, we have provided some information below. We have bullet pointed the main points first to ensure we are clear and then we have gone into more detail regarding the points further down.
Please read the following carefully and then fill out the Year One Reopening Form letting us know if your child will be attending school. Please support us by sharing this post with all Broadford Year One parents and Carers you can. Whatever decision you make, will be the right one and every child will continue to have the support and communication from the Year One Team, whether you are learning in school or at home.
- Each child will be in a 'bubble' consisting of 15 children (max) and 3 adults (not all in at once)
- Children and adults in a 'bubble' will not mix with children and adults from another 'bubble'
- The children will not be expected to social distance within their bubbles
- The first intake of children will be organised this week and they will start school on Monday 8th June
- Children will then come to school each Monday and Tuesday
- If you decide not to send your child in, you will have to wait until the following Monday intake before they are able to return to school. You must inform the school office by Wednesday before you want them to return
- The school day will start at 9am and end at 3pm
- You must be on time. If you arrive later than the start time and the gate is closed, your child will not be able to attend that day. There will be no admissions through the school office
- Contact with your child's teacher will be through email, notes or phone only
- Cold school dinners will be offered, usually a ham/cheese/jam sandwich. Unfortunately no hot dinners will be available at this time. If you choose to provide your child with a packed lunch, this must be in a throw away carrier bag - no lunch boxes.
- Children need to wear clean clothes everyday
No school bags or items may be brought into school except:
- a water bottle (compulsory)
- a jumper/jacket
- a sun hat
- change of clothes, including underwear and socks (to be left in school)
Details for the above
'Bubble'
This is the term we are using for people that will be grouped together. We aim for the children to have a teacher and a TA in each 'bubble'. It may be that the children have Miss X one week and Miss Y the next week. However, Miss X and Miss Y will only be allocated to that 'bubble'.
Social distancing
I am sure that you all agree, 5 and 6 year olds cannot social distance. We are to continue to teach Year 1 in the same way, however we have put in place several measures to ensure we all stay as safe as possible. The room each bubble uses will remain the same during this period. The resources they use will not be shared with children or adults outside of their bubble. We have implemented a rigorous cleaning schedule to ensure resources, furniture, switches and handles are cleaned throughout the day as well as after school. The children will have lunch together in their classroom, with their own midday assistant. The outdoor area will only be used by one bubble at a time and each bubble will have their own set of outdoor resources.
Intake of children
We need to know exactly which children are coming in so we can organise them into a bubble that suits them best and ensures we have the sufficient staff available. To help with the transition, we will call you to let you know which teacher and TA they will be with and which room they will be in.
If you later decide to send your child in
If you initially decide to not send your child back, but later decide you would like them to return to school, you will need to let the school office know no later than the Wednesday with the child returning to school the following Monday. This is to enable us to manage staffing requirements and cleaning.
Strict start time
We are asking you to turn up on time as it is very important that we begin to build up a clear routine with the children. We are working hard to make sure the transition from parent into class is as relaxed as possible. We will start the day with the most important information and reminders. We don't want to risk anyone missing out.
Contact with the class teacher
We are sorry we won't be able to have face-to-face conversations with our parents at the moment but we are still here for you. If you wish to speak to your class teacher, please email year12@broadford.havering.sch.uk and either ask us a question, pass on a message or request a phone call. If you need to pass on a message in the morning, please send a note in with your child.
Bags and items
Water bottle- please provide a named water bottle everyday. This will be sent home each night to be cleaned.
As we will be getting outside as much as possible, children should bring in a sunhat (or a raincoat if the weather changes). Please use an all day sunscreen if required, children should not bring sunscreen to school
Change of clothes
If your child needs to change their clothes for whatever reason, they must be able to do this independently. Please ensure your child is able to do this. If you do not send a change of clothes in which they later require, you will be called to the school to either drop off clothes or collect them. We are no longer able to provide a change of clothes.
Uniform
We ask that your child wears a clean uniform each day. We understand that they may have grown out of their uniform or that it is not always possible to get the uniform clean and ready for the following day. Therefore, the school is relaxing the uniform policy for the next half term. We would still like you to wear uniform where possible, but if you are unable to, you may wear your own clothes. No strappy tops/dresses or vests and please ensure they are wearing suitable footwear.
Whether you are sending your child back or not, please fill out the form below:
