Children in Years 1 and 2 are active learners in Broadford. Role play is an important part of the learning experience as the children. Through role play they have opportunities to problem set and solve, work in collaboration, use their imagination, use rich language... The possibilies are endless! Often simple materials such as sheets and colourful fabric provide the children with a great open ended starting point for children to act in role and create their own stories. If you have any old clothes/sheets/ accessories that are no longer wanted we will happily add them to our dress up box!

Les Miserables by Grace
Grace was very busy writing this morning. When questioned she explained she had written the lyrics of her favourite song from Les Miserables 'On my own'. Grace performed the song for Pine class and we thought it was so good everyone else should hear it too! Listen out for her performance.

Trusted children!
Yesterday in PE children in Cherry proved how much they trust their classmates.
They were blindfolded and had to guide each other through obstacles without any contact by giving them clear instructions.
There were some fabulous explicit instructions given by the children to ensure the children made it to the the end safely. Marvellous teamwork!

Amazing Bugs
Here are some photos of Year 1 children enjoying a visit from some rather amazing mini beasts. Bravely they plucked up the courage to handle some of these amazing critters!
Enjoying Broadford Beach
The children had a great time working collaboratively to build a moat around the sandpit today. They used their problem solving skills to move the water from the water tray across the sandpit using the guttering and even managed to make it turn a corner. It was a tricky task as they soon discovered the water was quickly absorbed by the sand so to complete the course the pouring had to be timed to perfection!

Once Upon a Time...
This week Year One have started working on their new topic for this half term - 'Once Upon a Time'. We have been including Peter Pan in our learning this week and have enjoyed talking about Captain Hook, Peter Pan and Tick Tock Croc!
As the topic progresses we will be adding pictures and videos from our favourite stories to a 'padlet' page: click below to have a look at the start we made this week!
Keep watching as we go along to see what we have been learning about fairy tales.
Mulberry's Fish and Chip Shop!
Today was the grand opening of the chip shop role play in Mulberry classroom.
The children were busy this afternoon serving customers, writing down orders, cooking food and calculating change. Some of the children almost forgot that the chips weren't real and nearly ate the foam chips!

Super readers.
Cherry class have loved reading their books they borrowed when we visited Harold hill library last term.
The children have shown a keen interest in getting their own Iibrary card so they can continue going to the library and borrow more books. Amazingly you can borrow up to 25 books at a time!
I look forward to hearing about the variety of fabulous books the children find!
Bug man.
On Tuesday children in year 2 had the pleasure of meeting some very special creepy crawlies.
The children were extremely brave allowing the bug man place the creatures in thier hands and on their bodies!
Take a look at the photos!
