Year 2 Chicks

Year 2 loved looking after the chicks in their class. They enjoyed watching them hatch in their incubator and grow (very quickly). The children observed how the chicks got bigger, growing more prominent feathers and larger wings and taller legs. The children were amazed as they hopped around trying to fly. Our chick monitors did a great job of caring for our chicks before we said goodbye to them and returned them to their home.

The children designed a run for the chicks, when they were big enough, and built toys for the chicks to play with.

'I loved holding the chicks they were so soft and fluffy' Maddison
'The yellow chicks were girls and the brown were boys' Nathan
'I watched them be born!' Freddie

Year 2 Star Writers

Well done to Leah, Lily and Rajaab; our Star Writers this week.

When they received a letter from Mrs Nichols stating she was thinking about taking away their independent learning time the children were mortified.

"How can she do this?"

"How will we become independent?" They questioned.

So. The children got there heads together and compiled a very convinceing list of reasons why independent learning/choice time was fundamental for their protests. They they each wrote their own persuasive letter to Mrs Nicholls.

The girls both wrote powerful letters which convinced Mrs Nicholls to withdraw her comments and allow independent t time to be reinstated. They included emotive language, an if sentence and even a rhetorical question! Well done girls!

Rowan Classes baking extravaganza!!!

Rowan Class are brilliant bakers!

What an exciting week! Year One have been very busy putting their baking skills to the test! The children came into school very excited to bake and decorate their creations. They gathered all of their ingredients that they bought at the shop last week and got ready to start baking!

The children worked collaboratively to carefully weigh out the ingredients. They followed the recipe closely, cracking eggs and whisking their mixture until it was just right. The children had already written letters to our cook Michelle, requesting to borrow the ovens in the kitchen so they carefully carried them to her ready to be put in the oven.

Then it was time for the fun part... decorations! The children had complete ownership of their designs and decided on the colors of the icing and the decorations they wanted to use.

Have a look at the photos below at their exciting journey from baking to hosting their own tea party!

David, Adrian, Naiara, Thabang, Ruby and Harvy!

Learning about 1066

The children have been learning about the year 1066 in history lessons. After the death of Edward the confessor, our country needed a new king! The children have researched the options and they had a vote for who they would like- they chose William of Normandy. Unfortunately for our class, the next king would be Harold Godwinson. The children have also learned about the key battles in 1066- the battle of Stamford bridge and Hastings. Eventually, William of Normandy does become king after he kills Harold Godwinson. He is then known as William the conqueror!
As a celebration, the women in Williams court had a tapestry made to show how he came to be king of England. This was known as the Bayeax tapestry. The class enjoyed seeing ‘scenes’ from this and working out what happened in the battle of Hastings. Later the class worked together to create their own modern version of the key parts of the year 1066. They did an incredible job- what a wonderful piece of art! Have a look and test your own knowledge- can you put the pictures in order? Ask your children for the answers- they will be able to tell you all about the kings and what happened at the battles!

'Harald Hardrada was a Viking!' Nathan
'They did a lot of fighting in 1066' Riley
'They had to build a lot of castles to protect themselves because lots of people were trying to become King' Tyler
