Year 2 Cycle Awareness Day

The children in Year 2 recently had an extremely valuable lesson in cycling when they were visited by two cycle awareness experts. The focus was not just to teach the children how to ride a bike but how to ride safely and how to keep control.
First, they rode their bikes and scooters around various obstacles which required slow and steady movements. The children were encouraged to use their brakes and not merely their feet as a means of control.
In addition to this, they learnt many fundamental rules when riding on public streets such as:
  • always stop at listen when approaching roads.
  • walk along side the bike when crossing.
  • never cross a road when the view is restricted, for example, between cars.
  • always wear a helmet which fits.
  • always wear high visibility clothing.

Learning how to correctly fit a helmet.

Cedar Drama Workshop

Last Thursday, the children in Year 2 travelled back in time to 1666! They switched roles from Kings and Mayors to Samuel Pepys and Market traders, and what a great job they did of acting out these roles!

The children reenacted the events leading up to the Great Fire of London as well as the fateful day and the dreadful aftermath. They learnt about how life in 1666 was different to their lives today and how the fire ultimately, led to changes being made to the city when it was rebuilt.

I didn't know about Sir Christopher Wren before today, he did lots of things! - Kanishka

The children now have a secure understanding of how the past differs from today yet impacts the way we live.

I loved being the King I can't believe they had hair like that! - Ollie

I thought it was weird that they didn't have electric anywhere or firemen! - Harry

100% In Year 2!

Well done to the utterly fabulous children in Year 2 for already achieving a week of 100% attendance!

Both Cedar and Cherry were rewarded with a cupcake party last week to celebrate and loved every minute. Coming to School every day is vital to the children making the expected progress at School, each day missed means hours of lost learning time.

"The cakes are delicious! I want them every single week so I'm going to come in every single day!" Arnez - Cedar

"I want to win this term so I keep telling my friends to make sure they come in." Sophie - Cherry

Remember, pupil job number 1 is to turn up to School on time, every day.

Keep it up Year 2!
