Artists in Cedar

We have been looking at the artist Georgia O'Keefe in Art. Using chalks we made our own Georgia O'Keefe pictures which we are very proud of. We are going to display them in the corridor.

Cherry at the Unicorn theatre.

On Friday Cherry class enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Unicorn theatre.
We travelled by bus and two trains into London whereby the children displayed great maturity.
Thank you to all of the parents that helped on the day; it is hugely appreciated.

Take a look at some of our photos...

Nothing beats a read whilst waiting for the train!
Stratford meets Cherry class.

Wakey wakey Henry, we are not even there yet!
Time for lunch...

Sky Griffiths: Cherry Star writer!

Well done to Sky for her brilliant writing this week.  After her first piece in year 2  I asked if she could use more conjunctions next time...This week she proved she can take feedback on board and squeezed in three! Fantastic reflectiveness!

Look at our new map,

Year 2 are learning all about different continents so we are using our new corridor map to find which countries are in the continents. We are going to then find out some interesting information about the countries and display them around the map.

Year Two follow the news!

Following Geography work recapping the countries included in the United Kingdom, Cedar Class begun a discussion on how Scotland were voting on being their own Independent country.
Many commented how they had seen or heard news about the voting, so a class ballot box was set up, with 66% voting No Scotland should remain in the UK and 33% voted Yes to being their own Independent country. Will Cedar Class' majority No vote mirror the real results on Friday?

Romford Recorder have also taken an interest in these discussions so watch out for some famous Cedar faces in future editions!

Charlie's Summer Project

Charlie sure had a fun packed summer, which he will remember forever as he has made a fantastic scrapbook of his adventures. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing your photos with Pine class!

Cedar Sukkot Building

Pupils in Cedar Class have studied the Jewish Sukkot festival in Religious Education this week.

Pupils learnt how Jewish people build Sukkot outside their homes or Synagogues from natural resources. They learnt how the roof is made from items that grew from the ground, for example branches and palm leaves. Some learners then continued to demonstrate reciprocity in the outside area building a Sukkah of their own.

Note: Sukkot is the plural of Sukkah.

Mulberry's Taste Test!

In science this week we continued our learning about senses by learning about our sense of taste!

We learned that we have five different types of taste buds - salty, sour, bitter, sweet and umami. Although they are too small for us to see properly with our eyes, we learned that there are an incredible 3,000 taste buds on our tongue!

We did a blind tasting test to explore the different tastes and textures of foods.

Deborah had an unpleasant shock when she tasted the tomato and thought it was "squishy and disgusting"! She pulled a very funny face but she did manage to eat her tomato.

However, it's perhaps not too surprising that everyone thought the chocolate was delicious!

Cherry in PE.

Today the children demonstrated fantastic teamwork in PE. They were asked to pass three hoops around the circle without letting go of their partners hand. At first there were a few tangles; but with great resilience the children proved they can overcome a problem. Soon enough they were passing the hoops at an impressive pace!

Maisie Moss - Project Superstar!!

Maisie Moss wowed us all with an incredible fruit face she made at home and brought to school this morning! Her fruit face had fantastic green grape hair, juicy orange shoulders and a smiley banana mouth!
She was inspired by the artist we are studying in Year One this term - Guiseppe Arcimboldo.
Fantastic job Maisie, we are so impressed by your effort to continue your learning at home.

What's That Smell?

Year One have started learning about senses in science. This week we concentrated on learning about our sense of smell. We spoke about different smells - some that we don't like and some that we really like (including the smell of McDonalds, which proved a real favourite!).

We did a particularly smelly practical activity which involved making scent pots of our own. Some smelled delicious - including a chocolate scent pot! Some, like the onion scent pot, were quite revolting.

Quiz your child at home and see if they can remember their five senses!

Rockstar maths!

As we speak Cherry class are powering through their Rock-star maths. They have settled in great and love the challenge of ploughing through the different sheets!

Yesterday Libby, Henry and Haliya completed their first sheet with 100% and are now on their second! I wonder if they've managed to make it 2 in a row!
