Ranger Stu.

On Wednesday we had a fabulous visit from Ranger Stu the animal man.
We saw some spectacular creatures including a meerkat, a tortoise, a tarantula, a snake and an armadillo in addition to many more.

Children observed the creatures up close and even stroked some of them, including an adorable tenrec. When we were back in class we then found of that these cute animals hold a record for the mammal which has given birth to the most live young at 36 in a single litter. Wow!

The children were very caring and respectful to the animals and were keen to extend their learning further by finding out all sorts of information about the animals. Well done Cherry.

It must be added that with tremendous fear (and bravery) Miss Estall was coaxed into holding the mighty spider!

Take a look at the pictures!

Challenge afternoon.

We had a lovely afternoon in Cherry today. We began to make our varying habitats whereby our animals we designed would live.

Children also showed their adults how they challenge themselves using our challenge area and even priced up a holiday for them in our travel agent!

Cupcake party!

Cherry enjoyed a cupcake party this week after winning the attendance trophy last week with 100%!

Remember job number one... Turn up to to school on time everyday!

Well done and keep it up!

Key Stage 1 Handball Competition

Key Stage 1 had a very exciting afternoon as every child in years 1 and 2 participated in the inter-house handball competition. All of the children demonstrated resilience and fantastic sportsmanlike conduct.
Some remarkable goals were scored by Timi in Pine class for Yellow house and Jessica Diaz in Mulberry class for Green house. The overall winners will be announced next week!

Thomas the Maths Whizz

Thomas was feeling very ambitious today in his maths lesson. We were aiming to practice our mental addition strategies and count on from numbers in our head using a maths bingo game on the iPod touches. Thomas managed to do this but he really wanted to stay and learn how to complete the multiplication level. With a little bit of help he learnt how to use arrays to solve mixed multiplication questions. Well done Thomas, what a great attitude to learning!

House PE Compeition - PE Kits Needed.

Our specialist PE teacher Miss Cook and our sports coach Mr Clark have been busy teaching the children how to play handball this week. Tomorrow afternoon all children in KS1 will take part in a handball competition to find  the winning house. Please ensure all children have their PE kit for the competition.

Cooking in the Home Corner

This morning the children have been busy writing recipes for our cook book in the role play kitchen. They have already made some delicious tomatoe soup and pasta. Next half term our topic is healthy food so they will be very well prepared!

Writing challenge

In the writing area in Pine and Mulberry this week the children have a challenge to write exactly 3 sentences to describe a picture.  Zaynab and Grace took on the challenge and did a fantastic job. We look forward to seeing more entries from both year 1 classes during the week!

"I can see fluffy clouds everywhere like sheep. The waves are crashing. It looks golden beautiful and peaceful." Grace

"I can see blue water. The sand is beautiful. Everything is calm." Zaynab
