Fairies Return

The last few days we have noticed that there is still a sparkly, silver trail leading to the outside area, and the fairies have added more items to their camp. They must have realised how many lovely children we have at Broadford! In order to ensure the fairies are safe Pine class have put posters up to make sure people treat our visitors well and tred carefully.

Fairies have arrived!

It seems that we have had some special visitors sneak in over the weekend. When they came into class this morning the children found a glittery trail that led to a tiny armchair and kitchen cabinet. After some detective work they have decided that the visitors are fairies who must have heard about all the wobbly teeth we have had in class lately! To encourage the fairies to stay we have been busy measuring and making some tiny furniture that is a perfect size for any fairy guests. The children are very excited to create some fairy homes so if you have any spare shoe boxes we can transform into luxury fairy houses please send them in.

Pinocchio

On Tuesday the whole school watched a fantastic production of Pinocchio. The pantomime involved lots of singing, dancing and acting and this enabled the children to engage well with the story. Here are some photos of independent writing in year 1 based around the Pinocchio story. Well done to Sienna and Georgia the rainbow writers this week, they had some tough competition!

Thank you Mrs Corbett

Next week is our last week before the Easter holidays and sadly on Thursday we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Corbett, our current Teaching assistant in Pine Class. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all the hard work she has put in over the years and the impact she has had on the education of many children.

Amazing Lego Constructions

Lego is a great resource for developing children's creativity, fine motor skills, team work and curiosity. This week the children have been given some challenges based around lego bricks.

After encouragement to build something using exactly 30 lego bricks Fitzroy worked hard to count the bricks and created some great models. He built a Batmobile for his favourite super hero and a super machine. Thanks to our lovely, new whiteboards that are attached to shelving units, he was also able to draw and explain his model.

The model below is a super house the children worked together to create. Some of the key features include revolving doors, viewing platforms to spy on any potential enemies and a large bed to relax in. Characters were created from lego and the house then became the centre of many adventure stories that day!

You may be looking at the work of future engineers, architects or artists. Apparently many have translated a childhood love of lego to careers in art, building and design!

Look at some of the incredible creations the artist Nathan Sawaya has made using lego:

Posting Our Letters

Today Year 1 went to the post box to post the letters they had written to their families, after this they took a walk around Harold Hill. The children walked to Central Park spotting lots of different buildings and discussing their uses along the way. When they arrived at Central Park they then had a great time using the play area. The children had lots of good ideas about what they liked about the park and made sensible suggestions on how it could be improved. They decided that the focus of their next letters should be sharing their ideas for improvement with the council! The children were very well behaved, they made sure they crossed roads safely and represented our school well. The letters should arrive to houses shortly, we hope you enjoy reading them!

More Project Superstars

William and Ellis have been busy working on two very interesting projects. Ellis has been working on a project all about Sonic the hedgehog, so far he has written a story and found out about the chaos emeralds. After having a great time at Romford ice rink to celebrate his birthday William has created his own ice skating boot!

Spooky Settings

The children came to school dressed in some fantastic costumes on Friday. One of the first things we learnt in witches and wizards school was the importance of having a spooky setting for our story. Children have began to add adjectives to improve the sentence 'The witch saw a castle'. Can you double click below and add your own adjective to the setting? Remember to include your name!

Story Centre Trip

The children had a great time at the Discovery Story Centre today. We helped a character named Hooter find all his missing stories through exploring the different settings around the centre.  After this we created our own class stories and even made our own spoon characters.

A big thank you to the parents who helped on the trip today. They made sure all the children were safe on public transport, joined in the activities and some even got a chance to practice their eye spy skills!

Here are some photos from the day.
