Year 1: What We Are Learning w/b 8th Dec 2025

Year 1: What We Are Learning

This week in Maths, we’ve been busy solving addition and subtraction problems in lots of fun ways! We used a number line to jump forwards and backwards, the part–whole model and bar model to split numbers into parts. Well done, Year 1!

Year 1 have also been learning about materials that absorb water. The children experimented using a pipette to apply droplets of water to different materials. They were surprised by some of their findings as not all the materials reacted to the water in the way they expected!

This week, the children have been working hard on their letter formation. In Literacy, they edited and rewrote a diary entry from the perspective of Traction Man, making sure to write neatly on the lines.

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!

Year 2 Santa Dash

 Year 2 Santa Dash

Our Year 2 children had a wonderful time taking part in our festive Santa Dash today! The playground was filled with excitement as the children, all proudly wearing their bright Santa hats, ran and giggled their way around the course.

The Santa Dash was a joyful way to celebrate the season, stay active and spread a little Christmas magic across the school.

Year 1: What We Are Learning w/b 1st Dec 2025

Year 1: What We Are Learning

“I’ve made a snowflake and I did it all by myself,” said Arianna.

In Literacy we have been learning how to plan a long write about a sequence of events in the story Traction Man. The children wrote key words regarding what happened and how Traction Man felt for each event. They then completed a draft copy and made some edits to correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. Next week the children will be writing their final copies!

In Geography this week, we have been learning about the different ways children travel to school around the world. The children talked about how they get to school and thought about why our journeys might be easier for example, because we live close to school, have safe pavements to walk on and good roads for cars and buses. To finish, we compared our own journeys with those of children in other countries and discussed the similarities and differences. Year 1 really enjoyed sharing their ideas and learning more about the world around them!

Well done Year 1 for an amazing week - keep up all your brilliant work!
